West Hollywood put out a super gay PSA calling for pedestrian safety. It’s hard to pick up the message from this ridiculously flaming video (starring Willam.. yum), but they’re going this route anyway. Pedestrian safety is not sexy. Important? Sure. But the first thing on your mind when following your hookup out of the bar? Nah. Still, West Hollywood wants to be fun and safe, and its pedestrian safety campaign is very squarely aimed at its young, hip, and gay partygoers.
I like what you’re doing here as far as promoting safety. Well done. Your video is top notch – full of great cameos, sexy men, and fun. Sadly, none of this is realistic. Maybe that was the point though – Let’s exaggerate public safety, bring in a famous drag queen, a famous fashion expert, and some scantily clad sexy men to make a PSA….
Wait a minute… This does make sense and I think I finally get it now! This is the best PSA ever!!! I wish every PSA was this good!!! Well done, West Hollywood! You’ve brought a real life issue to the table, exaggerated it, made it fun, and now people are more likely to be more careful while crossing the street after having one too may gin and tonics at their favorite gay bar. #guilty
If you like any of the Ru-Paul drag race peeps, like the fabulous Willam, you’ll love the videos I took at the Ru-Paul drag race show last fall (one of the best nights of my life):
