It was February, 2011. Bar X, partially owned by Ty Burrell, was celebrating their grand opening. How did I get invited to this sold out event? Well, I’d been working with one of the owners for the past several weeks getting stuff ready for their grand opening. He obviously loved me (because ELT) and invited me to the grand opening. When I showed up I was greeted with “Hey, you’re that Kinko’s kid!” Yep, Ty Burrell knew me as the Kinko’s kid, haha! We had a lovely, albeit short conversation that evening. I found out that his sister lived two houses away from me – weird, right? (I eventually asked her for a cup of sugar, but that’s another story.)
I saw Ty a few more times beyond the grand opening of Bar X. At Pride in SLC, he was all incognito with big glasses, a hat, and an empty stroller. I bumped into him and said “you’re not fooling anybody with your getup.” He laughed, called me the Kinko’s kid again, and told me that I was the only one who noticed him. He was super sweet and gave me a high five and a smile. Oh Ty Burrell, you’re a great, quirky guy!
