Nothing gets me into the Christmas spirit more than going to see some sort of Christmas concert or event. Whether it be enjoying Christmas Mass with my best friend Lindsay, watching the Christmas boats while drinking a Christmas cocktail, or going out to see a performance by the incredible Portland Gay Men’s Chorus, I get hit hard with all of the Christmas feelings. That’s why I was so excited to go see PGMC perform at one of Portland’s richest holiday traditions: The Festival of Lights at The Grotto.
What’s especially great about this specific performance is that The Grotto is typically a very conservative, religious venue. While having PGMC perform there might seem a bit out of sorts, the mission statement for The Grotto clearly details why they invited the best gay men’s chorus in the world to perform there.
The Grotto is a national Catholic shrine dedicated to Mary, Our Sorrowful Mother, which is a ministry of the Servite Friars – Order of Friar Servants of Mary.
The Grotto strives to provide a welcoming presence and a beautiful environment conducive to peace, quiet, and spiritual inspiration.
The Grotto offers understanding, compassion, support and hope through a variety of ministries such as spiritual direction and liturgical celebrations.

Needless to say, the performance was absolutely fabulous! The venue had a magical feel, the music was joyful and fun, and now I’m feeling all of the Christmas feels. A huge thank you to The Grotto and to PGMC for a lovely evening. Happy Christmas to you! Thanks for making the yuletide gay.
