Why do Mormons support Trump?, by Tom Taylor

January 13, 2018 by Tyler Smart 6 Comments

I was taught empathy, charity, and compassion for ALL of God’s children from my extremely Christ like, devout Mormon parents. I was taught to be honest and fair in my dealings with others. My upbringing is filled with countless examples of them both not just talking the talk, but walking the walk. I was taught similar principles from my church instructors growing up and ultimately taught these same principles as a missionary in Taiwan in the early 90s. I recently read that of all religious groups, LDS as a whole make up Trump’s most ardent supporters.

I honestly and with no pretense want to know how those of the LDS faith can continue to support this man who embodies everything Christ isn’t. A man who would rename The Sermon on the Mount, “How to be a Snowflake Loser”. I’d like to hear from my LDS friends about their feelings concerning our President.

I don’t want this to devolve into a shouting match, I don’t want to hear “whatabout-isms”, or “Clinton this/Clinton that…” I only want to hear from my LDS friends who support our President. I’d love your take. Please enlighten me, because unless the Church has RADICALLY changed in the few years since I’ve been an active member, I’m really confused. I’m posting this publicly to get as much feedback as possible. Thank you for indulging me.

I’d be interested to see where you read that. I don’t think that’s true. I’m a faithful member and go to church every week. I think most people are embarrassed by the president and just waiting for his time to pass like everyone else. I do think most LDS pray for him and hope he is successful, because that would be good for the country.

Hi, I’m the dude that wrote the piece. I saw the statistic in the deseret news and cnn I believe. If I recall, 61% of Mormons were in the approval camp. I was pretty stunned. Hence my inquiry.

What I find odd is that in TrumpWorld, Jesus is the ultimate snowflake. What with His compassion n empathy n other loser qualities.

It is sad to see that even one so call religious person is voting for a hate filled person like 45.
Personally I do not believe in a God. I believe in humanity.
