Dale Hansen is turning 98 years old on February 14th, Valentine’s Day. This WWII Veteran has been through a lot! He was proud to serve our country and is a true American hero. He risked his life multiple times to help provide safety for all of us.
I got out of it alive and it made me really want to appreciate life. I saw so many deaths. Dead sailors in the water, dead Japanese pilots in the water. I just really want to appreciate life now.– Dale Hansen
One of the first things Dale did post-war was find a job. He listened to Ben Franklins advice, “he who has a trait, has an estate” and was offered an apprenticeship in printing (hey, that’s my industry!) He became a printer for the next 45 years. He figured there would always be something for him to sell, and always offer something in demand. While printing has changed much through the years, he still reads the Salt Lake Tribune every morning while using more modern devices for breaking news. He’s always loved knowing what’s going on in the world.
While Dale doesn’t get out as much anymore, being in an assisted living facility, he still loves to read and tell stories to anyone who will listen. Because of his declining health issues, we don’t know how much longer we will have him with us, so it’s up to us to make this year’s birthday/Valentine’s Day extra special.
If you have a moment and would like to make someone’s day, especially this hero, please write a letter of appreciation or a birthday wish for him. Dale would absolutely love to receive the simplest of letters/cards from anyone, including total strangers. He loves to hear from people and it would mean the world to know that others are thinking of him.
Please share this with everyone you know and let’s make this day a very special 98th birthday. How many letters can we get to Dale by February 14th?

I’ve got overwhelming support for this man but I would love to have more. Living where he is, he tells me he is living in “God’s Waiting Room”. Please share and help us celebrate his 98th Birthday. You may not be there in person but trust me, you will be in spirit. Thank you!

I just got off the phone with Dale. He told me he has been receiving cards in the mail and he couldn’t remember who all the people were, but I could tell his was grinning for ear to ear. Some of the things people are writing are amazing. Thank you so much for this simple jester… He is in heaven (not literally though). Thank you so much to the rest of you who have sent cards. You’re amazing!
Dale, I’ve never met you, but I think you are pretty awesome! My uncle Tom thinks you’re fantastic too, and he’s definitely a man I trust. I hope you got the card I mailed you along with a plethora of others from around the world. Have an amazing birthday, friend.
