Cody took me out to dinner last night and it was pretty magical. We found a cute little Italian restaurant tucked away in downtown Portland called Roma Ristorante. It was a delicious, authentic Italian joint with real Italian waiters. The food was fantastic! All of the pastas are home-made each day, and some of the ingredients are even imported in from Italy. I had a ravioli dish with a special tomato sauce that featured imported Italian tomatoes. I don’t want to risk sounding like a hipster by saying that I could totally taste the difference, and I don’t want to sound racist by saying Italian tomatoes taste the same as American tomatoes, so instead I’ll keep my opinion to myself… Never mind, I can’t keep secrets – the tomatoes tasted just like what you get here in the states. Still, the dish was fabulous. Cody got a yummy fettuccine dish featuring a homemade Bolognese sauce. Mmmm, mmmm, mmmmm.
I was still a little hungry after dinner, so he took me to get a treat at Petunia’s Pies & Pastries, which is next door to the Italian place. This place was super adorable. The employees all where cute little bow ties and aprons. They look like they jumped straight out of a 50’s diner. The atmosphere was clean and elegant, and it reminded me a little bit of what you might find on Main Street in Disneyland. It was truly wonderful. All of the desserts are made by a chef daily, and everything is vegan and gluten free. Now don’t go sticking your nose up in the air like I normally do when I hear “vegan” or “gluten free”, this stuff was good!!! I enjoyed a salted chocolate chip cookie and Cody enjoyed a salted caramel cookie bar. Oh.My.God. How could something so amazing be gluten free and vegan?!?
So if you’re ever in Portland, I definitely recommend saying hello to me, and checking out these two wonderful places.
