I had no idea how bike-friendly Portland was until we moved here. It doesn’t matter what the weather is like outside, I see hundreds of bikers whizzing about every single day. I brought my blue bike from SLC, and we bought Cody a bike a few months ago so that we could start biking throughout the city together. (look at that cute face!) Yep, we are SO Portland. Oh, and guess what mom?! You’ll be so proud, we both got helmets!
While researching some cool bike paths online, I came across a crazy statistic. “10 million times in 2013, a Portlander got on a bicycle to go somewhere. Here’s how many of them survived: every single one.” With close to 90% of Portland peeps owning a bicycle, I thought for sure there would be at least a few bike fatalities each year. And it’s not like 2013 was just a really safe year either. There were no bike-related fatalities in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2008 and 2010. That’s a safety record that’s nearly unmatched from coast to coast. Way to be safe, PDX!
