Short Story #1 – Insurance
I’m pretty lucky to work for a company that provides benefits for domestic partners. Cody has been on my insurance for over a year, and it has worked out pretty good for us. It’s great insurance too, so we are comforted in knowing that if anything catastrophic were to happen, we’d be covered… (Oh, and have you seen our cute new glasses we got with our vision insurance?)
While the insurance is pretty great, there is one major drawback that we have to put up with because we aren’t married.
1) My company adds an extra $259.02 to every check – kind of like a little bonus.
2) They take out taxes.
3) They take away the $259.02 that they had originally given me.
The taxes we are paying add up to be a lot of money over the course of a year. It makes me jealous that all my married friends don’t have to pay these taxes. If Cody and I were married, we wouldn’t be taxed like this. But that’s the thing – we can’t get married where we want to get married…
